Dear Reader
ThorStor offers you a wide variety of English programs in depth and breadth. Each guide provides lessons in an accessible format, with suggestions for various levels of age and ability. We blend fact with fiction, new with old, and tradition with innovation.
These studies are designed for all types of readers - school or club, young or old. Fabled Fantasy, though written for the young, has been used in a later-life learning course. Machine Music and Gaia's Tears are designed to encourage cross-curricular studies in science and environment. Canadian content is placed within the context of universal themes: Humo?r with U, appropriate for all ages, includes humorists Mark Train and Stephen Leacock. Canadian content is also included in Operation Spies, Gaia's Tears, Rhyme & Rhapsody, and Found in Translation (a guide to French-Canadian literature in English).
Oh...the Dickens, to celebrate the bi-centennial of Charles Dickens' birth, urges readers to read and rediscover him. Essentially Existential includes the works of J.D. Salinger, Samuel Becket, Chaucer and Shakespeare in our search for meaning in human existence. Our study of the mind, Mind the Gap, connects recent books such as the curious incident of the dog in the night time and Still Alice with classics such as Flowers for Algernon and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Perhaps the most useful part of these studies is their extensive bibliographies. Before computers, it was said that all a student needed for a good education was a book list, a library, and a coffee shop. But more important are readers who share book-loving enthusiasm with others. In that spirit we offer our studies to you.
